Frost is an online text editor designed to provide a distraction-free writing experience while allowing users to listen to music of their choice. Since the platform is distraction-free, it lacks features like changing font type, size, italics, bold, underline, etc.

The platform operates in a web browser and is free to use. It offers numerous themes that adjust to the user's mood. Each theme features a different background image and accompanying ambient music. The first stable version was launched in June 2019.[1]. The latest version, v3.0, was launched in June 2020.[1]

The lack of customization options has drawn some criticism, but the official website states that this is a core element of the platform and has contributed to its success.[2] The available themes range from calm and happy to dark and foreboding, love, inspirational, and more.[3]

    Features

The following is a list of Frost's features.[4]

    • Ability to play background music
    • Auto-save feature to prevent loss of text if the browser closes
    • Night mode for reduced eye strain
    • 10 different themes
    • Live word counter
    • Downloading option in .txt format only

    Version 3.0

Version 3.0 of Frost introduced numerous new features and a complete platform redesign. New features include a live word counter, the ability to skip music tracks, three new themes, the removal of the "Inspiration" theme, and an automatic save function.[2]

    Development

The website is hosted on Squarespace and built entirely using CSS, JavaScript, and HTML. It was developed by Mansidak Singh, a student at an engineering college.[5] All images on the website are sourced from Unsplash.
