Future Planet Capital is an investment firm based in London, the United Kingdom.[1] The firm invests in companies from global research centres[2] and was ranked in the top 31 early stage venture capital firms in London by SeedLegals.[3]

Established in 2017 by Douglas Hansen-Luke,[4][5][6] the company manages approximately $400 million worth of assets.[7][8] The company raised money through sovereign wealth funds, corporates and pension funds to invest in businesses focused on climate, health, education, sustainable growth and security organisations.[8]

The company has agreements with partner funds working at, or in association with, international universities including Oxford Science Enterprises,[9] XFund and MIT Solve.[10]

In 2021, the company acquired Midven[11] which managed the UK Innovation Science Seed Fund (UKI2S).[12]

Future Planet capital invest through a variety of sub funds and vehicles.[13] It has invested in multiple organisations including, Vaccitech,[14] 23andMe and Tokamak Energy.[15] Two organisations have achieved unicorn status, including 23andMe and Guideline.[8]

The company’s advisory board is chaired by Lord Norman Foster.[16] Further notable board members include Paul Abberley, David Norwood, Robin Chase, Sugata Mitra and Lord Wei.[17]

The Wei Forward report[edit]

In 2022, the company commissioned Lord Wei of Shoreditch to launch The Wei Forward report. The report focuses on impact investment.[11] It called on the UK government to introduce tax breaks and initiatives to encourage sustainable investing.[18]
