Professor G. Krishna Babu M.D. shortly G. K. Babu is an eminent personality in Community Medicine in India.[1]

Early life[edit]

He was born at Jeypore, Orissa in 1959. His parents are Shri Goru Kanna Rao and Smt. Vijaya Lakshmi. His father was an Engineer in South Central Railway. He had primary and middle school education in Railway Schools of Secunderabad and Eluru. He has studied Intermediate course at Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada.

Career[edit]

He is graduated from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam in 1985. He did his Post-graduation (M.D.) in Community Medicine in 1989 from the same Institution under Dr. G. Swarajya Lakshmi. “Assessment of health effects attributable to certain Air Pollutants: A comparative study of two urban slums of Visakhapatnam, India” was his doctoral thesis. The study details are presented at Andhra Pradesh state conference of Indian Association of Public Health and Social Medicine in 27–28 February 1989. It was awarded the Sri Sundersh Peri Award for BEST Scientific paper with statistical background.

He has worked as Senior Research Fellow, in Doen Project sponsored by Department of Environment, New Delhi, India between August 1986 and July 1988.

He has worked as Senior Research Fellow, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, India and involved in IDD-DST Project (Psychology) in 1989.

He has worked as Lecturer, Department of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India and involved in teaching and research from 1989 to 1990.

He has worked as Public Health Officer, Singareni Collieries Company, India from 1990 to 1991. He has worked in Public Health Activities for a township of 100,000 population.

He has worked as Faculty Member of Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), Jaipur, India from 1991 to 1994.

He has worked as Medical Officer, Mobile Medical Unit, Ichchapuram in Andhra Pradesh State, India in 1994 and attended to an epidemic of Gastroenteritis in Ichchapuram in India.

He has joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, India in March 1995. He was promoted to Associate Professor in February 2001. He became the Professor of Community Medicine in August, 2006.

He has Organized the 54th Annual National Conference of Indian Public Health Association in January 2010 in Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam.[2]

His fields of interest are Epidemiology for District Health Management, Safe motherhood and child survival, IEC in Primary Health Care, Environmental Pollution and Health and Epidemiological and Statistical Methods for Rapid Health Assessment.
