GNV Orion is a 218.00-metre high-capacity Ro-Pax cruise ferry owned and operated by Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV). Built in 2025 by Guangzhou Shipyard International in China, she is the second ship delivered in a series of new-generation ferries designed for GNV's fleet modernization. Equipped with cold-ironing shore power capabilities, exhaust gas cleaning systems, and four MAN main engines producing 41,400 kW, she operates key Mediterranean routes connecting mainland Italy with Sicily and Sardinia.

Service

The ferry, the second of a series of four sister units, was launched on 26 June 2024 at the COMEC shipyards in Canton with the name of GNV Orion[1]and delivered on 16 April 2025 to GNV.[2][3] On 26 April it then set sail for Genoa, where it arrived on 30 May. On 16 June it finally began service on the connections between Genoa and Palermo, joining the first sister ship GNV Polaris.[4]

From 28 June 2025 it will also operate occasionally on the connections between Genoa and Porto Torres and from 6 May 2026 also on those between the Ligurian port and La Goletta, replacing the GNV Aurora.[5] On 3 July 2025 it was officially christened in Genoa by the Italian swimmer Federica Pellegrini.[6][7]
