GNV Virgo
GNV Virgo is a 218.00-metre LNG dual-fuel Ro-Pax cruise ferry owned and operated by Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV). Built in 2025 by Guangzhou Shipyard International in China, she is the third in a four-ship newbuilding series designed to modernize GNV's Mediterranean fleet. Equipped with cold-ironing shore power connection and LNG propulsion, she operates routes connecting mainland Italy with Sicily and Sardinia.
Service
The ferry, the third of a series of four sister units, of which it is the first to be fueled by LNG, was launched in December 2024 at the COMEC shipyards in Canton with the name of GNV Virgo, in conjunction with the laying of the keel of the twin GNV Aurora.[1][2] On 29 August 2025, 11 months ahead of schedule, it completed its sea trials[3][4]and, after having hoisted the Italian flag, on 22 October it was officially delivered to Grandi Navi Veloci.[2][5] Three days later it then set sail from China for Italy, where its christening was scheduled in Palermo on 11 December.[6] On 27 November, after just over a month of navigation, which saw the ferry circumnavigate the Cape of Good Hope, it finally arrived in Genoa.[7][8][9] On 11 December, as expected, it was christened in Palermo by Giuseppe Fiorello[10] and three days later it finally entered service on the connections between Liguria and Sicily, alongside its twin GNV Orion,[11] operating occasionally in the following months on the connections to Naples. On 15 April, four months after entering service, it was announced that the ferry will operate from 1 July on the connections between Genoa, Barcelona and Tangier Med, where it will operate alongside its twin GNV Aurora.[12][13][14][15]
