GSPD is a Russian musical project by David Deimur of St. Petersburg (formerly known as MC Lord)[1][2] and his wife Arina Bulanova (DEAD BLONDE), who is the female voice in GSPD songs and who is also a DJ at their concerts.[3]

Group History[edit]

Background (1993-2016)[edit]

David Igorevich Deimur (real name - Deknov) was born on the 10th of August 1993 in Nizhny Tagil. David studied at the Lyceum No. 51 in Nizhny Tagil. He studied piano at a music school.

After leaving school, he moved to St. Petersburg to study at St. Petersburg State University, where he studied political science. Later, on his Instagram profile, he repeatedly claimed that he graduated from the university with honours, and even demonstrated that he graduated with honours. At the same time, in one of his interviews, he claimed that for some time he was expelled from the university, to which he later returned.[4]

During his time at University, Deimur spent most of his time in a Hostel on the campus in Peterhof and was forced to spend 3-4 hours on the road to his faculty, located in the centre of St. Petersburg. Later, during the release of the first songs of the MC Lord Project, David could be seen at student parties on the campus as a guest, something he did several times. His work was popular before GSPD took off and became widely known.

In St. Petersburg, due to lack of money, Deimur got a job as an Uber driver, a job which he worked on for 10 months. During his time as a taxi driver, he began to experiment with music. According to Deimur, he used GarageBand on his phone to create his first songs, using a simple headset that came with his iPhone.

MC Lord (2016-2017)[edit]

In 2015 on his VK page, he began to post his first songs under the pseudonym 'MC Lord'. The lyrics of these songs mocked the criminal subculture of AUE, Russian show business, Internet memes, the lifestyle of modern youth and some popular personalities. The topics and lyrics of these songs helped him to attract an audience. These first songs were hip-hop songs.

The artist's tracks were distributed in meme communities on the VK social network. At the beginning of 2016, his tracks appeared in the records published in the increasing popularity of the internet message abstract memes for the elite of all sorts | AMDEVS - the tracks of GOSPODIEMSI were combined with the theme of this VK group. On 26 March 2016, the administration of AMDEVS organized the first festival of contemporary culture 'Dust', to which other artists, MC Lord included, would attend[5] (Deimur was asked to replace another musical group that had refused shortly before the start of the festival). This was Deimur's first performance.

At the festival, Deimur performed in the company of his university friends, with whom he played in KVN. The performance lasted for around 20-30 minutes, and among the songs played, were songs that have never released since in any of Deimur's projects. At the festival, he met performers 'Glory of the KPSS' and 'Andrei Andreevich Khan Zamai' who he did joint tracks with in future songs.

Until the spring of 2017, Deimur continued to release new tracks, which would be combined into the releases 'For the First and Last Time' and "Girls at the Disco'. MC Lord appeared at several more music festivals, most of which had an audience of 50 people or less. Deimur said in interviews that on the way to collect the largest venues with concerts, he went through performances which were attended by '3 people' like the youth festival[6] in 2016.

In parallel with writing songs, Deimur worked part-time in a small organization that provided SEO services.

GSPD (2017 - Present)[edit]

Rape After Rave[edit]

In the spring of 2017, Deimur presented his album "Rape After Rave" , which was the first full-length EP designed. As part of the release of the album, the project was rebranded, and the pseudonym "MC Lord" was replaced by "GSPD" (as Deimur himself claimed, the letters do not have a decoding, but later he accepted the abbreviation "Girls, Sex, Pump, Dance"). After a while, in the entries on his Instagram profile, David denied the continuity of the new name of his project from the previously used pseudonym, and, moreover, condemned the mass media, which indicated the old name when describing his project.

The first performance of the new album happened on May 8, 2017 at the "Victorious Super-Rave in Ionotek"[7] festival. The new album spurred a new wave of popularity. The first full-fledged video was filmed for the track "Dura", which was included in the EP. Arina Bulanova (DEAD BLONDE) became the operator and producer of the video. It is worth noting that before that, Deimur already had several music- videos[8] compiled by Internet personality Eva Masonova, who is familiar with him.

Beautiful Russia[edit]

In 2017, at the beginning of autumn, the EP "Beautiful Russia" was released. The artist presented his album at a recital in St. Petersburg at the Ionoteka club. The track "NFS Underground" gained wide popularity, which, in addition to popularity, brought the project some problems: the lyrical protagonist of the track, along with invented chemical compounds, lists the names of some prohibited substances, and for this reason the artist has repeatedly faced accusations of drug propaganda. It is worth noting that, Deimur claims to have never used drugs and does not approve of their use or their distribution, and the lyrics of his songs are an undisguised irony over the way of life that the lyrical heroes of his songs lead.

Rave Epidemic and Space[edit]

In February 2018, GSPD releases the EP - "Rave Epidemic". The album was presented at a solo concert in the Ionoteka club. The club hall could not accommodate all spectators who wished to attend the concert, the concert was greatly delayed due to the fact that a long queue formed in front of the club entrance, by the number of people significantly exceeding the usual entrance queues for this institution. This performance was the last concert of David in the Ionotec, who performed in this club several times since the release of his very first tracks. The club itself, shortly after the concert, also soon moved to a new location, which gave rise to jokes about the fact that after the GSPD concerts, the concert halls had to be closed. Remarkably, after the release of the album, David embarked on his first tour, consisting of sixteen cities in Russia.

In March 2018, a video for the song "Dance-Kill" was released. Arina Bulanova also became the operator and producer, David's comrades in performances for one team in the student KVN starred in the video. In May 2018, a video for the song "Eurodance" is released - one of the most popular songs from the album "Rave Epidemic". The operator of the clip was the operator of the XS Project. In April 2018, GSPD arranged a sold-out show at the Opera club. In the summer of 2018, the mini-album "Cosmos" was released.

Generation of Sin[edit]

In August 2018, the album "Generation of Sin" was released. Deimur's EP was inspired by Netflix 's Black Mirror . Each song on the album described one of the deadly sins. With this album, in the fall of 2018, GSPD went on a tour of thirty cities in Russia and Belarus, he gathered an audience of 20,000 people. Despite his aerophobia, Deimur flew by plane to concerts in such remote cities of Russia as Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and Irkutsk.

At the end of November, a significant concert for GSPD took place - the performer gathered a sold-out in the largest concert club "A2" in St. Petersburg (seating 3500 people). As a result, Deimur went all the way from performing in little-known small "underground" bars to sold-out in the largest club in St. Petersburg. In order to "put an end to the underground era" GSPD performed a song from among his very first releases - "About how the girl Alena became an adult" at a concert in A2. As part of the same tour, GSPD arranged a sold-out at a concert in Moscow at GLAVCLUB GREEN CONCERT.

MYZLO[edit]

In 2019, GSPD concerts in many cities were under the threat of cancellation due to obscene language and the mention of drugs in the lyrics. In the same year, Deimur released the album "MYZLO"[9]  , where, unlike his other albums, where there was meaning and history, he made the album to just dance to and enjoy.

Leningrad Electroclub[edit]

On January 28, 2021, the album "Leningrad Electroclub"[10] was released, in which both the old style of the artist from 2017 and a completely new sound can be heard at the same time. There is almost no profanity in the album: obscene language slips through only in two tracks.

As sources of inspiration, David named the work of Benny Benassi, Scooter, Viktor Tsoi, Ivanushek International, Hands Up, and AK-47 . For a long time he has been collaborating with the Xs Project group.

Participation in KVN[edit]

Since 2011, Deimur began to play in KVN as part of the university league of St. Petersburg State University. In 2014, as a member of the KVN Lyubov team, he won the Opening of the Season Cup in the Baltika[11]  Interregional KVN League. After a creative break in 2016, three of the four members of the Lyubov quartet founded a new team, Friends of Boris Yeltsin (DBE). A distinctive feature of the new team was the lack of standard humor as such. A DBE performance usually consists of one song, often with indistinct lyrics. In this composition, the team continues to this day within the framework of the Interuniversity Championship of KVN in St. Petersburg.[12]

The appearance of the team at the Championship games is always spontaneous.
