Gabe Jaramillo (born October 12, 1955) is a Colombian-American tennis coach.[1][2][3][4] Jaramillo has trained well-known athletes such as Maria Sharapova, Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Monica Seles, Pete Sampras, Anna Kournikova, Kei Nishikori, Marcelo Rios, Max Mirnyi, Mary Pierce, and others.[5]
Gabe Jaramillo's brother, Jorge Jaramillo, was a former swimmer who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the 1976 Summer Olympics.[6]
Early life and education[edit]
Jaramillo was born in Cali, Colombia. His family members include Olympian athletes and coaches.[7] His mother, Fanny Carvajal de Jaramillo, was an Olympic swimming coach, and his brother, Jorge Jaramillo, competed in two Olympic Games, in Munich and Montreal.[6]
At the age of 16, he moved to the U.S. to complete his higher education and play college tennis.[1]
Career[edit]
Jaramillo was the director at Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy from 1981 to 2009, later known as IMG Academy. At the academy, he became the head coach.[8][9] The Bollettieris' tennis academy was bought by Mark McCormack in 1987, after which Jaramillo and Greg Breunich expanded it to include multiple sports, an academic school, and different types of training. Jaramillo retired from IMG Academy in 2009.
Jaramillo also started Club Med Academies, located in Port St. Lucie, Florida, in 2010. It is a multi-sport academy where he trains athletes from around the world. Jaramillo is also the Director of Tennis Training at Altitude International.[10]

Jaramillo has been a sports commentator ESPN Mexico. He has also appeared on ABC Australia, Caracol Radio, Wowow TV Japan, and Grand Slam TV. He has also been featured on Trans World Sport, the longest-running weekly international television sports program.[12]
