In 1977, Lavin completed his study in Agricultural Science & Agribusiness and was pursued by the Co-Op North Connacht Famers (NCF) and started out as a Laboratory analyst in the co-op Mill. He was then appointed General Manager of the Plant.[1] Not long after his promotion, he was appointed to the board. After his appointment to the Board of Senior Management, he helped in the re-branding of the co-op to Connacht Gold and Connacht Gold Quality Feeds Ltd.[2] https://issuu.com/datascope.ie/docs/sligo_week48web/28

Lavin spent the next nearly 30 years with Connacht Gold and he completed his studies in Agricultural Science and Business Management at the University of Limerick.

Within his final years with Connacht Gold, the company decided to make a purchase of a Co-Op located in County Donegal known as Donegal Creameries in 2011,[3] which resulted in another re-branding of the Parent Company, Connacht Gold Quality Feeds Ltd., to Aurivo Ltd.[4]

Upon leaving the newly named Co-Op, Aurivo Ltd., Lavin was appointed as Business Development Director of Keenan System and Keenan's Intouch Porduct.[5] The company launched a new brand known as Keenan's Intouch.[6]

Lavin's and Keenan's Intouch Agri-Tech Product was bought by Alltech in mid 2016.[7]
