Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gajah Berang, commonly recognized as Gajah Berang Secondary School or GBS, is a state high school located at Gajah Berang Road in Malacca City.
Background[edit]
GBS was established in 1956, originally had six classrooms housed in a single building block and started operations with 150 students and 6 teachers. It now has 47 classrooms, eight science laboratories, two computer labs and three living skills workshops.[2] The school was an English school, and transformed into a state school under the government policy, stated by Khoo Pay Tiong.[3]
In 2022, the school has 1240 students, 80% are Chinese, stated by Ng Teng Yau.[4][5]
Development[edit]
The school started the first phase construction of multipurpose hall costed 1.2 million ringgit in June 2022 after approved by the authority in year 2019. The second phase would costs 1.4 million ringgit. The school received donations from the local community for the construction, that includes RM200,000 donation from a parliament member.[3][4][5]
