GalaxEye Space, shortly referred to as GalaxEye (pronounced /gæləksaɪ/), is an Indian private aerospace manufacturer spun out of IIT Madras, Chennai, India. The startup aims to provide the Most Meaningful Dataset from Space[1] by means of an advanced constellation of earth observation micro-satellites. Unlike the incumbent Satellite imagery Providers, their data is said to be uniquely enabled by their novel Drishti Sensor[2], that they are building in-house. Their first commercial satellite is expected to be ready in Q3-2023[3].

History[edit]

The founding team is hived out of Team Avishkar Hyperloop, IIT Madras[4], which qualified as the only Finalist from Asia among the Top 21 at the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition in 2019, hosted by Elon Musk. Starting in April 2020 in 'stealth mode'[2] after their success at the competition, founders looked at entrepreneurship as a career option, and decided to pursue the Earth Observation Industry.

Later, GalaxEye announced to have raised a pre-seed round of funding from Speciale Invest[4] of an undisclosed amount. The company issued that the funds would be deployed to strengthen and build robust technology infrastructure and prototypes. GalaxEye is also a founding member in a consortium called Indian Space Technologies and Applications Design Bureau (I-STAC.DB)[5], that will focus on developing next generation space technologies including launch capabilities and satellite development.

GalaxEye aims to complete a constellation of 15 satellites in a period of 5 years[2], to provide frequent revisits over any area on Earth, during both daytime and nighttime.
