Alhaji Garba Gashuwa (1949 - ) is a contemporary Hausa poet from Northern Nigeria and one of the greatest in the area of Hausa political poems. Gashua was born in Gasamu and attended a traditional Qur’anic school in Gasamu. Although he did not attend any formal Western school, he learnt how to read and write in Roman Script (Bōkō) from friends.[1] Gashua’s composition is usually in Ajami (using Arabic-based alphabet to write indigenous languages). Thus far, he has composed more than one thousand poems on various subjects.
