Gariba is a Ghanaian Hip hop, Afro Pop and a dancehall artist who started his music career as a street rapper back in his elementary school days in Accra Ghana. By dint of handwork and perseverance, in recent years he has developed a cult following in the Ghanaian music industry.
Early life and music career[edit]
Early life[edit]
Named Karim Abubakar by his Ghanaian parents at birth, he was born at Dansoman, a suburb of Accra. During the early stages of his education, Gariba developed a a great interest in music and entertainment and hence represented his school in many entertainment programs.
Music career[edit]
Though originally named Karim, he took to his popular street name Gariba when he ventured into the world of music. Gariba has many hit singles making waves in the country like, I am Gariba, Barihadaawa, to mention a few. In Nima, where he hails from, he’s like a ‘rap god’ to the masses in the neighborhood and among most Zongo settlements in Ghana.[1] Starting his career under the helms of legendary music producer and artist manager Hammer, Gariba mainly did Hausa music until recently when he added extra influences to the taste of his fans and music lovers. Gariba has shared platforms with some top artists in the Ghana and Nigerian music industries like Shatta Wale and Olamide. These events include the BF Suma concert organised in Accra, Ghana on October 2018, and Stonebwoy’s Ashaiman to The World Concert and many other platforms before that.
