Garima Poddar (Hindi: गरिमा पोद्दार; born 3 April 1997) is an Indian celebrity chef and Model known for her title which she won IIHM Young Chef India schools.[1] Also she is known as Garry after (Garry Mehigan), her favourite judge in Masterchef Australia. At the age of 17 she was honoured by Dr. Suborno Bose, as he draped a national flag across her shoulder. Garima was the Torch Bearer in Young Chef Olympiad. She has been awarded by the President of India Shree Pranab Mukherjee as one of the Top 100 women of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan for Globalising Indian cuisine. Garima graduated first class in BBA (Hons) from St. Xavier’s College Kolkata with a 8.56 GPA. Garima completed her Masters in Culinary Arts Management from University College Birmingham and received a Distinction over all. Her on-screen and off-screen life is the subject of widespread coverage by newspapers and online media. Known for being strong-headed and assertive, she is recognised for her contributions. She loves to travel around the world and is truly a globe trotter.

Personal life[edit]

Garima has had an humble upbringing - born and raised in Kolkata in a Marwari family. Garima Poddar is the only child of Padmasree Poddar and Rakesh Poddar. Her mother is an interior designer. Her father is a businessman.

She completed her schooling from Calcutta Girls' High School,[2] Kolkata. She did her graduation from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata in BBA Honours with First Class and a GPA of 8.56. Garima completed her Masters in Culinary Arts Management from University College Birmingham under University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. She received a Distinction over all in the Masters programme.

Career[edit]

She won IIHM Young Chef India title among 3000 schools and 30,000 students of India she was selected as first finalist from Eastern Region.

She was praised by renowned chefs, such as Chef Sanjeev Kapoor and Chef Gordon Ramsay.[3] She was managed to put up 10 dishes in 3 hours, which was rather challenging but she did it. Later, she was awarded for her excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President Of India as one of the top #100 women achievers of India in the globalising India category, in January 2016 [4]

In 2016, she walked the ramp for the designer Jyotee Khaitan held at ITC Sonar Bangla in the achievers walk segment.

Garima won the second diamond crown for Miss India Gujarati Rajasthani held in Kolkata, where she walked the ramp for designers Anshu Modi , Peppermint Diva and Komal Sood. She also won the Miss Aerobicized Award in the same event.

In 2017, Garima was awarded as one of the top Ten Outstanding Young Person of the Nation award by Junior Chamber International (JCI). In 2018, she was nominated for Top ten Outstanding Person of the World by Junior Chamber International ( JCI ). In 2020, she gave a speech ‘What’s on my plate’ at TedX Youth.

In 2017 and 2018 she appeared on the TV shows on NDTV Good Times and CNN as a judge for the Young Chef food competition conducted by IIHM.
