Gary Freedman was the first person to cross New Zealand’s Cook Strait in an electric plane.[1] Freedman made the flight on November 1, 2021, in a two seater electric plane.[2][3]

Freedman is the founder of ElectricAir, which is a company designing electric planes.
On November 1, 2021, Freedman took off and flew across the Cook Strait in an electric plane. He landed at Wellington International Airport after a 40 minute solo-flight. Wellington International Airport officials believe it might have been the longest flight ever taken by an electric aircraft over water.[4][5]
