Facts[edit]
- Sussman is a blogger and keeps an online journal of the Nets 2006-07 season. [1]
- He has held the PA position for 12 years, taking a brief hiatus from 2001 through 2004. At that time, Rick Zolzer was the voice of the Nets.
- Gary is also the Vice President of Public Relations. He is the longest running NBA executive to hold both positions of PR and PA.
- When Vince Carter scores a 3pt shot, Gary yells "V,C,3" or " FROM DOWNTOWN SECAUCUS THAT'S A: V, C, 1, 2, THREEEE".
- When Carter dunks Sussman yells "Did you see VC!?"
- When Yi Jianlian scores a 3pt shot, Gary yells "That's a size triple YI!" or "Yi for THREEE" and for two pointers "Yi....for two"
- For the 2008-2009 season Sussman uses the line "PURPLE HAYES!" to describe multiple 3 pt shots made by Jarvis Hayes
- For the 2008-2009 season Sussman uses the line "La Vida Lopez!" or "from the Pez Dispenser" to describe a Brook Lopez dunk and assist.
- With 2 minutes left in the quarter Sussman says quickly "2 minutes to go in the (quarter)(half)(game). 2"
- Gary's signature line for late game scenarios (usually involving the Nets up by 2 or 3 before the other teams last possession or with the game tied and Nets possession) is to tell the fans in the arena how many seconds are on the shot and game clock, to say for the fans in attendance and watching at home, to stand up and make some noise for your New Jersey Nets. For example: "There is 2.7 on the shot and game clock. For those in attendance and those watching around New Jersey including Bloomfield,Trenton and Tom's River....STAND UP AND MAKE SOME NOISE FOR YOUR NEW JERSEY NETS!"
