Zach Mackey is an American sports broadcaster and currently the youngest NCAA Division one Football and Basketball broadcaster.[1] He is the radio play-by-play broadcaster for Montana State Bobcats Montana State Football and Men's basketball teams for Learfield IMG College and the Montana State Bobcats Sports Network. Learfield Sports represents over 130 colleges across 31 states. He has served in that role since March 2019. Mackey grew up in Geneseo, Illinois
Career[edit]
Mackey attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Prior to getting the job from Learfield Sports as "The Voice of The Montana State Bobcats," Mackey had various positions at Iowa[2] including the radio voice of the Iowa Baseball[3] team a position that he still holds to this day. In 2019, Mackey was one of 63 applicants that applied for the Montana State job.[4]After a successful interview, he was hired on March 13, 2019[5]. For football broadcasts, he works alongside former Bobcat Dan Davis. His broadcast partner for basketball is Brian Priebe.
In addition to calling games, Mackey is the host of the weekly radio program Cat Chat, where fans can call in to talk to Mackey and Montana State coaches Brent Vigen and Danny Sprinkle. He also hosts weekly television coaches shows, where Vigen and Sprinkle recap the latest games.
Mackey was named "STAA All American" by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America in 2017.
