Gavin Van Peperzeel (born 29 March 1992) is an Australian professional tennis player, reaching a career high ranking of World No. 339 on 4 May 2015.[1] He is coached by David Hodge and states his heroes are Usain Bolt and Rafael Nadal.[2]

He made his first challenger final at the 2015 Anning Challenger and considered to be a significant step in his career. [3]

Professional career

2011-13

In 2011, Van Peperzeel made his debut on the ITF Men's Circuit in March and won his first match in September 2011 against American Patrick Davidson at the Australia F5. In January 2012, Van Peperzeel was given a wild card in the 2012 Brisbane International qualifying and defeated Émilien Firmin before losing to 146 ranked Jurgen Zopp. He continued on the ITF Circuit throughout 2012, reaching the quarter final at the Thailand F3 in May and Australia F9 in October. He finished 2012 with an ATP ranking of 912.

In 2013, Van Peperzeel skipped the Australian season, instead playing on the ITF level in Turkey, reaching one quarter final at the F9 in March. In April, Van Peperzeel made the semi final at the Israel F7 and the final of the F8, losing to Shuichi Sekiguchi in his first final appearance. He continued throughout 2013 reaching numerous quarter finals and a semi final at this level in Belgium and Australia. He was given a wild card into the 2013 Traralgon Challenger, but lost in round 1 to Brydan Klein. He reached another final in November in Cambodia, losing to Andrew Whittington. He finished 2013 ranked 554.

2014-present

Van Peperzeel started the year at the 2014 Brisbane International losing in round 1 of qualifying to Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Then lost in qualifying rounds of the Burnie Challenger and West Lakes Challenger before returning to the ITF circuit where he competed throughout the year around Australia and Europe. In August 2014, Van Peperzeel won his first title in Serbia, defeating Antonio Sancic in straight sets. He lost the following week in a final against Nikola Milojevic. Nevertheless, this increased his ranking inside the world’s top 500. In October, he reached the last round of qualifying for the Traralgon 1 Challenger. He was given a wild card into the Traralgon 2 Challenger the following week, but lost in round 1 to Kyle Edmund. He finished 2014 with an ATP ranking of 485.

Van Peperzeel commenced 2015 at the Nouméa Challenger, reaching the last round of qualifying, He lost in round 1 of qualifying for the 2015 Australian Open to Maxime Authom. In February, Van Peperzeel qualified for a main draw the first time in his career at the Launceston Challenger, but lost in round 1 to Dayne Kelly. Throughout February and March, Van Peperzeel made four consecutive quarterfinals at the ITF level in Australia. In April, Van Peperzeel reached the final of the Anning Challenger, this was his first ATP Challenger Tour final and first event outside of his native Australia.[4]
