Gayatri Gopichand Pullela is the daughter of the Former All England champion Pullela Gopichand. Following her father's footsteps, she is also a professional badminton player who has won a Gold medal at the Junior Grand Prix Indonesia, 2017 in the Singles event. She, along with Samiya Farooqui, are one of India's top emerging Doubles players and is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Programme. She has also Represented India at the BWF World Junior Championships in Indonesia, 2017, eventually losing out in the Pre-Quarters.[3]

Early life and background

Inspired by her father, Pullela Gopichand, Gayatri took up the sport of Badminton at a very young age. Training under the watchful eye of her father at the Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, Gayatri’s love for the sport was evident through her immense dedication and determination in training.

Career

She had her first breakthrough victory at the age of 11 when she won the U-17 doubles title at the 2014 All India Junior Ranking tournament held in Kakinada[4]. In doing so, she became the first U-13 Indian shuttler to achieve this feat. She has also won a Silver medal in the Doubles event at the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2016 at Tirupathi[5] and a Gold Medal at the All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament-2016 At Patna, Bihar along with Samiya Farooqui[6]. She is now the top-ranked badminton player in the U-17 circuit[7]
