Alex Perez (born December 7, 1980), known by his stage name Gencade, is an American rapper from Spanish Harlem, New York. He gained attention in 2009 after winning a contest to rap with a pop star on the popular Hip-Hop online magazine HipHopDx.[1] He released his first official single, lil Prayer, in 2016. Gencade is currently being mentored and shopped by Fatman Scoop.[2]
Early life[edit]
Alex Perez was born in New York City in East Harlem and raised in the Carver housing projects. He is of Boriqua descent. He attended Jackie Robinson High School in Spanish Harlem.

2000’s –15: Career beginnings[edit]
Growing up in East Harlem during the ‘golden days’ of hip-hop, the young rapper was launched into the hip-hop game in the early 2000’s. After being discovered by iconic Run-DMC DJ, Jam Master Jay and shortly after gaining the opportunity to demonstrate his skills to hip-hop legend Wyclef Jean.[3] over the years, he collected instrumentals and original beats from various outlets and made several mixtapes he gave out to anyone who would take them. eventually in 2011 he released “Student of the Game”, a mixtape he distributed through outlets such as datpiff.[4] In 2015 Gencade Performed for a sell out crowd at Santos Party House in New York City[5]
2016–present[edit]
From 2016-17 Gencade realeased the single lil prayer[6] and several freestyles throughout social media. In January of 2018 he released the song Big Bottles saluting new and old Hip-Hop artist from New York which gave him some attention in the Hip-Hop online magazineThe Hype Magaziine[7] In 2018 Gencade released the singles Back it up[8] and Make up sex.[9] Make up sex got him attention on Youtube with reviewers.[10]
Artistry[edit]
Gencade is known for his lyricism, storytelling and catchy hooks.[11] Some of his influences are Jadakiss, Eminem, Big Pun, Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Fabolous, Tupac, Snoop Dogg and lil wayne.[12]
