General Electric GEVO
The General Electric GEVO is a turbo charged diesel engine built and designed by General Electric, for the Evolution Series of locomotives. Originally designed to replace GE’s long standing 7FDL and to meet EPATier 2 emission standards, the engine was first produced for GE’s ES44AC in 2004. GEclaims the engine is more efficient than its predecessor, accomplished by utilizing 12 cylinders as opposed to 16 to create the same amount of power. The engine has been used in GE-only locomotives, all branded as GE Evolution Series.
