Generation Bass is a blog founded in February 2009 by Vincent Koreman (Netherlands). In May 2009, DJ Umb (United Kingdom) joined the blog. They are the co-owners & co-editors of the Generation Bass blog and Digital Music Label.

The weblog focuses predominantly on introducing dance flavors from all over the world, including kuduro, dubstep, zouk, cumbia, bouyon, barefoot, soca, kwaito and moombahton. The blog’s slogan is: “Platform for cool music from wherever”. Every day, posts and features are written by a small but growing team of writers and artists from all over the world. These include recording artists and writers El Guero Unico (John Newell), Federic Galliano, Hipi Duki, Process Rebel and Zuzuka Poderosa.

History[edit]

In its first year, the blog featured items on artists like Die Antwoord[2] as one of the first blogs in the world. It has been featured on various South American TV stations and mentioned as a highly influential blog by broadsheets worldwide, including the UK’s The Guardian Newspaper[3] who described it as an essential source for new Transnational Club Sounds.

It has also been cited as an influence by other big blogs like Diplo's Mad Decent[4] who have said “Generation Bass is on top of their game” and Daniel Haaksman of Man Recordings who has called it one of the best music blogs on the planet. Generation Bass inspired a whole new crop of imitator blogs.

Awards[edit]

The website of Generation Bass has been voted as Top 10 blog in the world by the influential AfroPop worldwide and in December 2010, the blog won the MCN (Music Centre Netherlands) “World Up!” award for “Best Newcomer”.[5]

In September 2010, Generation bass started the Generation Bass Digital Label. The label releases at least one digital downloadable album or ep per month. Albums are free to stream via services like Spotify and Beatport, or can be downloaded as MP3 via digital stores. There are no CDs or vinyl records released yet.[6] Songs were used in Fifa Street 4.
