Geoffrey Lewis Tabachnick is an American-Canadian venture capitalist, investor and entrepreneur. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Bedrock Capital and a former Partner at Founders Fund.
Early Life and education[edit]
Lewis was born in Calgary, Canada to Sholem Tabachnick and Laurette Tabachnick, both of whom were teachers.[1] Lewis graduated from Queen's University in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree.[2]
Career[edit]
In 2004, Lewis joined P&G after they offered to sponsor his green card.[1]
In 2008 he joined Peter Thiel's hedge fund Clarium Capital,[3] but left to co-found TopGuest a loyalty software company for travel companies that was acquired for in 2011.[4][5][6][7]
Lewis then joined Founders Fund as a Partner after being recruited by Peter Thiel. During his time at Founders Fund Lewis led investments in Lyft, Wish, Privateer Holdings, Nubank and RigUp.[8][9]
Lewis left Founders Fund in 2017 to found Bedrock Capital with Eric Stromberg.[10][11][12] Bedrock currently has approximately $500 million in investment capital.[13] Founders Fund is an investor in Bedrock.[11]
In 2019, Lewis was named as one of the Top 100 Venture Capitalists in the world by The New York Times and CB Insights.[14][15]
Investment Philosophy[edit]
Lewis is widely known for his investments in companies considered "narrative violations" a term he coined in 2017.[16][17] In a white paper published on Bedrock's website Lewis wrote "The best time to invest in a company is when it’s most in violation of a popular narrative".[18][17]
Politics[edit]
Lewis has been critical of President Trump, writing in a Medium post "A world in which President Trump makes any sense at all is not the world I want my grandchildren to inherit".[19] The blog post was in stark contrast to his then-boss Peter Thiel's vocal support of President Trump.[20][21][22]
