From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Geoffrey John Davies (born 4 April 1977)[1] is the New York-based Australian founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of The Violin Channel, which the Washington Blade calls "the world's leading classical music news source".

Early and personal life[edit]

Davies was born in Brisbane, Australia.[1] He received music and communication degrees at Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Queensland University of Technology.[1] He is married to Richard Jordan, an architectural painter and designer. Davies received his permanent United States residency in 2021.[2]

Career[edit]

Davies began his career in the late 1990s in advertising in the financial services industry and was later head of marketing for an insurance company. He moved to New York City in 2011 to focus on his social media and internet music news endeavors.[3] In 2009, Davies founded The Violin Channel, but once in New York he focused on the venture, which grew into "the world's leading classical music news source".[2]

In 2020, Davies co-executive produced The Violin Channel's digital Vanguard Concerts alongside Charles Letourneau and the Alphadyne Foundation.[4][5] The series has featured top string players during COVID, giving them the freedom to play whatever music inspires them, and makes its programs available worldwide for free; it has received 4.3 million views worldwide.[2]

He is one of about 150 people on the Recommendation Board for the Avery Fisher Artist Program of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.[6] Davies was named one of Musical America's 30 Most Influential Arts Professionals in the World.[3]
