George Hakim Jewelers
George Hakim Jewelers, or just George Hakim (/ˈdʒɔːrdʒ ˈhɑːkim/ JORJ HAH-kim, Arabic: [ʒorʒ ħaːkɪm]), is a Lebanon-based jewelry company. Headquartered in Beirut, the company also has presence in Geneva.[1][2][3]
History[edit]
The company was founded by George Hakim in Constantinople (now Istanbul) in 1875.[1]
In 1915, during a visit to Rome, Hakim presented a silver reproduction of the historic Church of Mardin to the Vatican.[citation needed]
The company's second shop was opened in Aleppo in 1916, when Elias Hakim (son of George) joined the business. In 1939, Elias relocated the firm's headquarters to Beirut.[4]
In 1948, the younger George Hakim (grandson of the founder) took over the company.[1] His sons, Elias, Karim, Nabil, and Alain, joined the business in the 1990s.[4]
The company began selling Swiss-made watches in 1995 under the brand name "Alain Philippe".[4]
In 2014, the business opened a boutique in Geneva, at the Grand Hotel Kempinski (now the Fairmont Grand Hotel).[2][3] It often exhibits at trade shows across the Arab world, including in Saudi Arabia[5] and the UAE.[6]
