Premise[edit]

On a camp at Nashik, Nagpur-based IPS Officer Virat Chavan meets Patralekha aka Pakhi. They develop romantic feelings but are unable to fully express them. As they bid adieu, Virat promises to call her. Virat gets posted to Gadchiroli (a suburb in Maharashtra), where he meets Police Officer Kamal Joshi and his studious but outgoing and short-tempered daughter, Sai. Virat misplaces Pakhi's phone number, who feeling cheated, decides to move on, and incidentally is married to Virat's cousin, Samrat.

Virat confronts Pakhi and while the misunderstanding is cleared, Virat refuses to break up his brother's marriage but promises Pakhi he would never love another woman. When Samrat discovers their story, he quietly leaves his house not wanting to get between Virat and Pakhi.

In Gadchiroli, Kamal is shot by local goon Jagtap Mane. Virat promises a dying Kamal he would take care of Sai and marries her under such circumstances. He tells Sai of his emotional commitment to Pakhi and Sai agrees not to expect him to fulfill the role of a husband. Sai continues her medical studies while struggling to win over Virat's family. Feeling betrayed by Virat, Pakhi inflicts her frustrations on Sai. Virat gets emotionally attached to Sai seeing her efforts to help his family members and subsequently falls in love with her, but cannot confess.

Development[edit]

Screenwriter Leena Gangopadhyay acts as creative consultant on this show, a remake of her show Kusum Dola.

The premise of the show features the main female protagonist, tentatively named Sai, a village girl who is bright in her studies and quite upfront by nature. Circumstances force the girl to marry a man Virat (the lead hero), who is previously committed to another woman (the third main lead). The story follows the man's story to get over his feelings for the other woman Pakhi and how he finally falls in love with the heroine (Sai). Ganguly decided to have the backdrop of an extended family, and had the other woman (named Patralekha aka Pakhi) marry the hero's brother and live in the same house as the hero (Virat).

Filming[edit]

The show has been filmed at several locations, the most prominent being Nashik.[12]

Soundtrack[edit]

The title song for the series Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin has been taken from the popular song "Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meii" sung by singers Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar in the 1972 film Raampur Ka Lakshman.
