Gibran Noorani (born 1986)[1] is an Indian screenwriter particularly known for his work in Indian Films, Television and Social Media. He is also a qualified Dentist, since 2009.

Early life and education[edit]

Gibran was born on 20 October 1986 in Mumbai, India to Shakeel and Mumtaz Noorani. His father, Shakeel Noorani, is a well-known film producer and director, who made the 2000 Govinda starrer sleeper hit, Joru ka Ghulam.

Raised with his father’s film influence on him, Gibran always wanted to make movies but because of his introvert nature in childhood, he couldn’t express his dreams. This was primarily because of his childhood obesity, which made him a bookworm instead.

He cleared his academics from CWC School in Mumbai with flying colors, and joined the Al-Ameen Dental College, Karnataka for his dental degree.[2]

It was here in Dental College that Gibran realized his true potential by joining the cultural theatre group, where he used to write, direct and act in College plays. Initially, suffering from stage fear, Gibran slowly groomed himself to be a mainstream anchor, which later boosted his confidence in his career. His cultural activities didn’t hamper his academics and was honored with his Doctorate in 2009.

In the same year, Gibran expressed his dream of film making to his father but since his family was going through hardships, he decided to practice Dentistry instead.

The frustration of going into a shell again and going through a personal rough patch propelled Gibran to daydream stories that he wanted to tell. He started reading online scripts of legendary directors like Quentin Tarantino, Anurag Kashyap and Rajkumar Hirani. With no formal training in writing, Gibran wrote his first script, which made his father realize about Gibran’s undiscovered talent. Gibran’s family then pushed him to write and achieve his dream.[3]

Career[edit]

Gibran started his struggle by visiting Production houses during his lunch breaks from his Dental clinic. After writing and directing a few short films, Gibran finally landed at Anurag Kashyap’s office where he met Zieshan Quadri[4] during the Gangs of Wasseypur promotions.

Zeishan read Gibran’s scripts and learned about his writing skills. Zieshan and Gibran then collaborated on numerous scripts, which translated into the 2015 film Meeruthiya Gangsters.[5] The film bombed at the box office but was critically acclaimed for its realistic and rustic appeal.

Gibran then forayed into Television and started working with major TV channels including Colors, &TV, Zee and Star and has written more than 50 episodes for shows including Code Red,[6] Darr Sabko Lagta hai, Savdhan India, Pyar Tune Kya Kiya etc.

In 2016, Gibran joined the social media giants RVCJ as the Film Division Consultant, kick starting RVCJ’s entry into Movie promotions. RVCJ became the pioneer’s in Facebook Live Interviews, which were hosted by Gibran.

Gibran’s casual, sarcastic and humorous style of anchoring is raved and liked throughout social media by celebs and audiences alike.

Gibran sold the rights to his script ‘Dheet Patangey’ to Adhikari Brothers, which is slated to release in 2017.

He is also rumored to be writing the next installment of the Gangs of Wasseypur series with Zeishan Quadri.[7]

Personal life[edit]

Gibran has his own clinic in Mumbai where he still practices Dentistry, while juggling between writing and anchoring.
