Gil Pratsobrerroca i Febrer is a Catalan television director, screenwriter, and writer.

Biography

Early life and education

Born in 1996 in Vic, he grew up there and studied a bachelor's degree in political science at Pompeu Fabra University and later a master's degree in sociology at the University of Barcelona.[1][2] Despite this academic background, he had always been interested in creative writing and eventually decided to pursue it as a vocation.[2][3] He studied narrative writing for two years at the Escola d'Escriptura of the Ateneu Barcelonès [ca]. In addition to living in Catalonia, he spent one year in England and another in Mexico.[4]

Career

He made his professional debut as a screenwriter and director with the fiction television series El teorema del mico [ca] broadcast on TV3. He also wrote scripts for the radio programme El búnquer [ca] on Catalunya Ràdio and wrote and directed the series El creador d'influencers for 3Cat.[5]

Outside the audiovisual field, he submitted works to literary competitions before making the transition to becoming a published author.[6][7] In 2020, his short story for the literary competition El Porc del Demà, focusing on the meat industry, was among the ten finalists and was published in a collective volume edited by Pol·len Edicions [ca] and other animal-rights organisations.[8][9] In 2024, he received third prize in the adult prose category of the Puigmarí Awards, organised by the Agrupació Artesanal of Maçanet de la Selva.[10]

Later, he submitted a novel to the Premi Ciutat de Tarragona [ca], where it became a finalist. He later discarded the manuscript, describing it as "chaotic and poorly executed", but reworked it and reused several subplots in what became his first published literary work, El joc del silenci. The novel was published by Columna Edicions [ca] and released in September 2025.[6][3] The book combines elements of crime fiction and the thriller genre and focuses on the disappearance of a seven-year-old girl in Arcavell [ca] (Alt Urgell), a Catalan village near the Pyrenees and the Spain–Andorra border.[5][11] It became one of the notable literary phenomena in the Catalan market during the autumn of 2025,[12] with five editions published in the following months and being described as "one of the literary surprises of the year".[11] The book was presented in several venues, including Barcelona during the "Tarda negra" event at the Setmana del Llibre en Català [ca],[13] the Casal Popular Boira Baixa in Manlleu,[2] the bookshop Muntanya de Llibres in Vic,[1] the self-managed cultural space La Soll in Tàrrega,[14] and the bookshop La Trenca in Andorra la Vella.[6]

In 2025, following the success of El joc del silenci, he announced that he was already working on a second novel.[15]

Influences

In literary terms, Pratsobrerroca has cited crime fiction authors such as Liz Moore, Don Winslow, and Joël Dicker as influences.[11][16]
