Glee curse

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Glee curse refers to a series of coincidental violent events, drug abuse, suicides, mysterious deaths, and criminal activities related to members of the cast of the American musical comedy TV series Glee.[1] As of July 2020, there have been at least nine events involving the cast members, ranging from allegations of racism to suicides amongst the various castmates.

Chronology and main events[edit]

  • On July 13, 2013, 31-year-old Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson) was found dead in a room of a Fairmont Pacific Rimhotel in Vancouver, Canada. An autopsy performed in July 15, revealed that Monteith died due to an accidental overdose of heroin mixed with alcohol. He was boyfriend of cast member Lea Michele (Rachel Berry).
  • On July 10, 2014, 35-year-old Matt Bendik, Becca Tobin's (Kitty Wilde) boyfriend, was found dead in a hotel room due to a cardiac arrest in mysterious circumstances. It's hypothesized he was suffering from high stress levels due to a business-related event, as an autopsy soon related Bendik's corpse had no drugs in his system.[2]
  • On August 31, 2014, during "The Fappening scandal", among the personalities whose photographs were leaked, there was the then 27-year-old Heather Morris (Britanny Pierce), whose pictures were some of the 500 pictures leaked and distributed all over the internet.
  • On December 2016, Melissa Benoist (Marley Rose) filed for divorce after three years of marriage with co-star Blake Jenner (Ryder Lynn), citing "irreconcilable differences".
  • Between December 2017 and early January 2018, Naya Rivera (Santana Lopez) was charged with domestic battery after physically injuring her then-husband Ryan Dorsley after a brief discussion while she was under alcohol influence. They divorced shortly after and divided the custody of Josey, their only son.[3]
  • On January 30, 2018, 35-year old Mark Salling (Noah Puckerman) committed suicide by hanging, after being trialed, and eventually arrested in December 2015, due to charges over possession of child pornography and allegations of pedophillia and sexual abuse.[4]
  • On December 5, 2018, Jesse Luken (Bobby Surrette) was involved a single-person car crash in California. Luken was under the influence of drugs, and although no one was injured, Luken was charged with a bail and released a couple hours after the accident.[5]
  • In mid-June 2020, Lea Michele was publicly accused of racism and mistreatment allegations from former castmates, largely from Samantha Ware (Jane Hayward), who claimed Michele stated that "if [she] had the opportunity, [she] would (...) WOULD "S*** IN YOUR WIG!"[6][7]
  • On July 8, 2020, 33-year-old Naya Rivera disappeared while touring with her 4-year old son Josey on Lake Piru. After failing to return their boat on time, authorities found Josey sleeping alone on the boat. According to Josey, Rivera disappeared after she helped him onto the boat, but didn't get on herself. She was presumed dead by drowning. Two days after the disappearance, Ryan Dorsey (her ex-husband) took over Josey's custody. Her body was found 5 days later [8][9][9]
