Glen Garriff Lion Reserve

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Glen Garriff Lion Farm is a lion farm and conservation center located 7 kilometres from Harrismith in the Free State, South Africa. Glen Garriff is found near the base of the Drakensburg, 5 kilometres from Sterkfontein Dam. It is situated in the highvelt, characterized by grasslands, sandstone, and basalt rock mountains.

Glen Garriff is owned and overseen by South African Patrick Shannon, and his staff of five. Shannon refers to the work he does with the lions at Glen Garriff on the page: [1] Shannon's daughter, Traci Shannon Page Wood of Knysna, works with Shannon to ensure the future of the lions.

The lions of Glen Garriff are known for their genetic purity and good health, significant on account of the high rate of inbreeding with captive lions and illness in current populations of African lions. Maintaining the safety of these lions is the mandate of the farm. In recent years, the farm has taken in rescued lions from different sources, including the Pretoria National Zoological Gardens.
