Gone to See the River Man is a 2020 horror novel written by American author Kristopher Triana and published by Cemetery Dance Publications. Part of the extreme horror subgenre, the story follows a girl, obsessed with a serial killer and rapist, going on a mission to find a mysterious man, known only as the River Man. As they venture into the woods, following down the river, they soon find horrors beyond what they have bargained for.

The novel follows the point of view of a person with hybristophilia across two different timelines, and deals with extreme violence, gore and mystery. The story also has cosmic horror influences.

Plot summary[edit]

Lori, a woman of middle age, is obsessed with a convicted serial killer and rapist, Edmund Cox, known for brutally killing more than twenty girls, with whom she has been in touch through correspondence and prison visits. She develops and unhealthy relationship with the killer, and starts seeing him as a man of unparalleled masculinity and raw energy.

In hopes of further developing a sentimental relationship with Cox, Lori agrees to help him find a person only known as the River Man, due to his whereabouts being located in Hollow River, hiding in the bushy woods of Killen. Lori must first go to the cabin of Cox, and find a particular key that she must take to the River Man. While she prepares for the trip, her little sister, Abby, who suffers from brain damage and catatonic episodes, begs her to bring her along the trip to the river. Lori accepts reluctantly, and the two embark to the woods, in hopes of finding this mysterious individual of great influence that Cox seems to deem as very important.
