Gough Engineering

Gough Engineering is a UK materials handling equipment manufacture based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. Initially started as a family run business in 1940, the company has expanded to provide equipment internationally. Gough now has a portfolio of patents and has developed specialist material handling equipment, specializing in conveying systems, bucket elevators, and vibratory sieves, screens and feeders.

Through the 1990s Gough expanded to a turnover of over £10 million per annum and employing over 200 people.[citation needed] At this time Gough were based in Hanley, Staffordshire on Clough Street which was built by the company in the 1940s and continuously extended until it moved in 2002.[citation needed] During this time Gough expanded internationally to have offices in the United Kingdom, United States of America and Germany.[citation needed]

However, during in 2002 adverse trading conditions and succession issues led to the breakup the offices into three separate autonomous companies: Gough & Co Engineering Ltd, Gough Econ and Gough gmbH.[citation needed] During this process the Gough UK Company was purchased by its current shareholders, since then the company has sold over £30 million of equipment.[citation needed]


In this time Gough moved to Newstead, Trentham, Staffordshire in 2001.[citation needed] The company then moved again in 2014 to where they are based now in Stoke-on-Trent.[citation needed]

Gough Engineering offer the following products:

  • Different types of bucket elevators, including swinglink bucket elevators, horizontal bucket conveyor and Econ-o-lift bucket elevators.
  • Vibrating feeders. Described as an instrument that uses vibration to “feed” material to a process of machine. It uses both vibration and gravity to move material. Gough produce a variety of feeders within their portfolio, this includes: heavy duty feeders, vibratory tray feeders, vibratory tubular feeders and vibratory feeders.
  • Conveying systems: Gough currently produce a variety of conveyor systems: belt conveyor systems, food grade belt conveyors, heavy duty conveyors and horizontal bucket conveyors.
  • Lift and tippers used within a production facility to elevate bulk product containers. They lift and tip in one action.
  • Bulk handling equipment advertised by Gough as a system to save time and reduce waste at key transfer points.
  • Product hoppers. Used with a production line to increase control of product flows as it moves though the conveying process
  • Storeveyors. This form of equipment allows for regulating product flows. It is both a storage unit and a conveying unit moving the product at a required rate.
  • FIBC ‘Big Bag’ dischargers. These are a lifting and support structure to simplify the process of emptying FIBC big bags.
