Grace Morenike Henry (born October 5, 1964) is a Nigerian veteran, public administrator, and advocate for veteran welfare. She is the first woman and the first non-commissioned officer to be appointed as Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion, a role she assumed in June 2025 under the appointment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.[1]

Early life and education

Morenike was born in Ogun State, Nigeria. She attended Anglican Central Primary School and Anglican Grammar School, where she obtained her West African School Certificate. She later earned a Dental Nurse Certificate from the Nigerian Army Medical School.

Military career

Morenike joined the Nigerian Army in 1989. She served primarily in dental care roles at:

  • Military Hospital, Ikoyi (1989–1990; 1994–1996)
  • Military Hospital, Yaba (1990–1994)
  • Brigade MRS Sobe, Ilorin (1996–2000)[2]

Civilian career

From 2000–2005, Morenike worked as a care professional in the United Kingdom at St. Thomas’s Hospital and WyCare Centre. She founded Hengramore Nigeria Limited and served as CEO (2005–2019).[3]

Nigerian Legion leadership

Morenike became Director of Corporate Affairs at the Nigerian Legion prior to her 2025 appointment.[4][5][6]

Appointment as Chairman

On June 7, 2025, President Tinubu appointed Morenike as Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion, marking the first time the position was held by a woman or an NCO. The appointment was confirmed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.[7]

Social initiatives

Morenike founded Hengramore Care Home to support vulnerable populations. She also serves as National Coordinator of the Female Military Veterans of Nigeria (FMVA), advocating for female veterans’ welfare.[8][9]
