Grant Kurzner is an American football coach specializing in special teams coordination. As of 2024, he serves as a special teams analyst for the Michigan Wolverines football program.
Early life and education[edit]
Kurzner attended Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, Florida, where he played as a placekicker and punter. He was named to the Associated Press All-State Florida Team and the Miami Herald All-Dade County Team.[1][2]
Kurzner later attended Appalachian State University, initially joining the football team as a preferred walk-on kicker before an injury ended his playing career. He graduated in Fall 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education (K-12) and a minor in Sports Science & Coaching.[3]
Coaching career[edit]
Appalachian State University (2014-2019)[edit]
Kurzner began his coaching career at Appalachian State University as an Undergraduate Assistant and later Graduate Assistant Special Teams Coach. During his tenure, the team won four Sun Belt Conference championships and five bowl games.[4]
University of Missouri (2020-2022)[edit]
At Missouri, Kurzner served as a Special Teams Assistant.[5] During his time at Missouri, the team's special teams units showed improvement in various statistical categories.[6]
Eastern Michigan University (2022-2023)[edit]
Kurzner joined Eastern Michigan University as the Specialist Coach in 2022 and was promoted to Special Teams Coordinator in 2023. During his time at EMU, the team won the 2022 Idaho Bowl,[7] and several players earned All-MAC honors.[8]
University of Michigan (2024-present)[edit]
In 2024, Kurzner joined the University of Michigan as a Special Teams Analyst.[9]
Professional development[edit]
Kurzner is a member of the American Football Coaches Association. He has also pursued graduate studies in the Master's Program in Positive Coaching at the University of Missouri.
