Three Nigerian undergraduate interns co-founded the idea to provide access to electricity to cater for the energy needs of disconnected low-income rural communities.[2][3]
The idea became the foundation for the winning entry for the inaugural Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Presidents’ Change the World Project Competition in 2009.[4]
Green Village Electricity (GVE) Projects Limited was incorporated as a Limited Liability Company in 2012 by the Corporate Affairs Commission.
Operations[edit]
In July 2015, Green Village Electricity (GVE) Projects received an equity and debt investment of US$675,655 from the Bank of Industry in Nigeria and matching funds of US$65,535 from IEEE Smart Village.[5]
