The Green cape dress of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex was a dress worn by her on 9 March 2020 at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey. It was designed by Emilia Wickstead.

History[edit]

Following their withdrawal from royal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended their last engagement as senior members of the Royal family on 9 March 2020 at Westminster Abbey for the annual Commonwealth Day service. Beginning 1 April 2020, they began their transition into post-royal life and moved to Canada.[1][2]

Meghan was seen wearing the green dress for the service as she walked with Prince Harry before entering the abbey. A gust of wind blew against Prince Harry's suit, and revealed that his navy suit featured green lining that matched the hue of Meghan's outfit.[3]

Design[edit]

For the service, Meghan wore a monochromatic emerald-green dress by Emilia Wickstead, a matching fascinator by William Chambers, and nude stiletto heels by Aquazzura; she accessorized with a chic mini bag by Gabriela Hearst.[1][2][4] The dress featured 3/4-length sleeves, a structured bodice, and an asymmetrical cape design around the neck and left shoulder.[5]

Reception[edit]

The dress was compared to a green monochrome outfit worn by her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales, for the Trooping the Colour in 1982.[6]
