Greg Heeres

Greg Heeres (born 1964) is a Jewish-American former American football quarterback who played collegiate football for the Hope Flying Dutchmen from 1981 to 1984. Heeres is fourth all time in Hope College's total offensive yards with a total of 4,978 yards.[1] Heeres is also fourth all-time on Hope College's career passing leaders with 5,120 yards passing through four seasons.[1] Heeres is widely known for Hope College's only undefeated season as a senior where he led the team to 9-0 while maintaining an offense that averaged 40.3 points per game.[2]

Early years[edit]

Heeres was born in Western Michigan to two Jewish parents and attended to Grand Rapids Christian Highschool where he pursued his athletic career playing both baseball, basketball and football.Greg was a two-year starter at Quarterback for his Eagles football team and earned All-City and All-State honors while being named team MVP. He also excelled at pitcher for the school's baseball team also earning All-City honor for his Junior and Senior seasons and adding an All-State honor his Senior season.[3]

College career[edit]

Heeres attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan to continue to pursue his academic and athletic career. Greg continued to play baseball for Hope College while also continuing to play Football. Greg was named the football team's captain his senior year and earned All-American honors in an undefeated nine game season in which he threw for 1,946 yards while throwing 18 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions and adding a 54% completion percentage on 130 completions on 237 attempts.[2]

Professional career[edit]

Heeres was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons in 1985.[3] He did not make the team's final roster.

Later life[edit]

Following his athletics career, Greg Heeres became a renown motivational speaker for Maximize, a sales consulting company.[4] His Instagram page features a number of one minute motivational speeches in which he encourages viewers of all ages.[5]
