Groot is a character first introduced to the MCU in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy when Peter Quill is trying to sell an orb with the Power Stone inside. Rocket Raccoon is groot's friend and can translate Groot's language to English. Groot, Rocket, Peter, and Gamora all get arrested after fighting over the orb in the streets. Inside of the prison, it is revealed that all Groot can say is, "I am Groot". Groot shows that he is powerful when he stops someone from fighting by stretching his fingers up the guy's nose. At the end of the movie Groot sacrifices himself so that his friends can defeat Ronan. His last words are, "We are Groot".
After the big fight with Ronan, Rocket plants one of Groot's seeds to make a new Groot. By spending time with the new Groot they learn his language. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the I Am Groot series the New Groot is a baby, Baby Groot. In Avengers Infinity War, Avengers Endgame, and Thor:Love and Thunder Groot is seen as a teenager. In Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special he is seen as a young adult.
