Alex is the default female player character in the sandbox video game, Minecraft of video games, owned by Mojang Studios and created by Markus Persson. Created to be a female version of game's first person avatar, Alex, along with her male counterpart Steve, has since become an icon of modern video gaming as a whole. She has starred in five games, and is depicted as a cubed humanoid with varying skins and clothes.

Alex is based on Jens Bergensten, One of the Lead Designers at Mojang. Alex was first added into Minecraft in September 2nd, 2014 When the 1.8 update ("The Bountiful Update") released. She was added as one of the default player skins on both Console and PC.

Super Smash Bros.[edit]
Alex was announced the crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the 1st of October 2020, being an alternate skin of Steve.[1][2][3][4][5][6]. Alex attacks using a variety of Minecraft items and blocks, such as the sword and TNT[7][8][9]. The reaction to Steve and Alex's inclusion caused the social network platform Twitter to crash[10][11]. An in-depth presentation showcasing Alex's moves was held on 3rd of October 2020, approximately 45 minutes before the Minecraft Live livestream[12][13][14][15]. The developers of the game encountered difficulties in Alex's development, such as having to rework the stage to account for the existence of Minecraft blocks[16]. Alex will have alternate skins for the Minecraft Zombie, and Enderman in addition to Steve[17][18][19]
