History[edit]
The origins of Catalana Occidente go back to the constitution of the Catalan Society of Fire Insurance known as "La Catalana", promoted by Fernando de Delás and Gelpí in 1864. This society was the embryo of the 'Current Catalan Group Occidente.
In 1948, Jesús Serra Santamans and a group of industrialists acquired the Western society, which, years later, in 1959, would take over the control of "La Catalana". With the merger of the two companies, the Catalan Group Occident begins to be outlined. In 1963 it becomes the first insurer in Spain to incorporate computer science into insurance management and in the early seventies it moves its headquarters to the town of Sant Cugat del Vallès, in Catalonia.
