Guild Capital is a venture capital firm founded in 2009 by Iain Shovlin.[1] It is headquartered in Miami Beach and has corporate offices in Chicago, New York, Mumbai and Pune. Guild Capital invests in early-stage companies, typically as their first institutional capital.[2] It specializes in Incubation, Series Seed and Series A investment rounds. Since inception, Guild Capital has made 16 investments in 13 companies.[3]

Chicago[edit]

In July 2014, Guild Capital participated in the $500k Series Seed round of Home Chef.[4] Home Chef provides ready-to-cook boxes of fresh, chef-apportioned ingredients directly to consumers. In April 2016, Guild made a follow-on investment in Home Chef's $10M Series A round.[5] Home Chef further raised $40M in a Series B investment round in September 2016.[6]

In November 2015, Guild Capital led the $1.1M Series A round of The Catch Co (previously Mystery Tackle Box).[7] The Catch Co. curates an experiential assortment of new and relevant fishing gear along with informative content around fishing.[7] Guild Capital made follow on investments in The Catch Co's $1.1M venture round in March 2017 and in the $3M Series AA round in October 2017.

In July 2016, Guild Capital led the $750k Series Seed round of MailControl.[8] MailControl is a cyber security company that protects enterprises from the threats presented by spymail (email with tracking codes).[9]

In February 2017, Guild Capital made an undisclosed investment in Techweek.[3] Techweek organizes annual conferences in various cities targeted at entrepreneurs and high-growth companies in the technology sector.[10]

Los Angeles[edit]

In May 2009, Guild Capital participated in the $10M investment round of HauteLook.[3] Hautelook is a members-only flash sale website for top fashion and lifestyle brands.[11] Guild Capital exited its investment in Hautelook, when the company was acquired by Nordstrom in February, 2011 for $270 million.[11]

In February 2013, Guild Capital participated in the $3.1M investment round of Winc (previously Club W).[12] Winc sources high-quality affordable wines and provides attractive subscription wine packages directly to consumers.[13]

In July 2013, Guild Capital participated in the Series Seed round of Gaming Insiders.[3] Gaming Insiders is a professional network for leaders of the gaming industry.[14] Gaming Insiders was acquired in 2016 by NextCustomer.[15]

In March 2015, Guild Capital participated in the Series Seed round of Candy Club.[3] Candy Club curates and delivers premium confectionery items to its customers on a monthly subscription.[16]

In August 2015, Guild Capital participated in the $5.65M investment round of TechStyle Fashion Group.[3] TechStyle is an online fashion retailer that offers personalized subscription boxes to its consumers.[17] TechStyle was valued at $1B in 2014, gaining the company the status of a unicorn.[18][17]

In June 2017, Guild Capital participated in the Series Seed round of Ruggable.[3] Ruggable owns patented technology to design and manufactures machine-washable rugs.[19]

New York[edit]

In September 2017, Guild Capital participated in the $3.6M Series Seed round of investments in Petal.[20] Petal offers credit cards to individuals who currently have little or no credit history and hence do not have access to traditional sources of credit.[21]

London[edit]

In September 2016, Guild Capital led the Series Seed round of investment in LunchSmarter (previously MealFix).[3] LunchSmarter helps customers order take-out lunches from nearby restaurants at a discount and allows them to jump queues at those restaurants.[22] LunchSmarter operates in London and has a corporate office in Boston.[23]

Mumbai-Pune[edit]

In April 2009, Guild Capital participated in the Series Seed round of Atidiv (previously LOFT Analytics).[3] Atidiv is a data science company offering systems design, data analytics, product development, and managed services.[24] This was the firm's first venture capital investment.[3]

Exits[edit]

Hautelook was acquired by Nordstrom in February, 2011 for $270 million ($180 million in Nordstrom stock and three-year earn-out of up to $90 million).[11] At the time of acquisition, Hautelook had grown to 4 million members and offered discounted sales events in women's fashion, men's fashion, accessories, kids' clothing and toys, travel and home and beauty.[11]

Guild Capital made a partial exit from Winc (previously Club W) when the e-commerce wine business raised $9.5M in September 2014. Guild Capital sold some of Winc's stock to lead investors Bessemer Venture Partners.[26]

Gaming Insiders was acquired in 2016 by NextCustomer.[15]
