The Gujarat Pradesh Mahila Congress (GPMC) is the unit of the All India Mahila Congress for the state of Gujarat.
History[edit]
In Gujarat, congress was formed in 1920. Its first president was Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who presided over GPMC's formation in 1983. The Gujarat Congress would organize Indian nationalist campaigns during the Indian freedom struggle, and after independence in 1947, it became responsible for supplying candidates of the Congress in local and state election campaigns.[1]
In November 2007, the Congress released a list of its party contestants for the first phase of two-phased elections in Gujarat. Congress lost the elections as the Bharatiya Janata Party got a clear majority.
In November 2012, Congress again lost the elections as the Bharatiya Janata Party got another clear majority.
