Plot[edit]

The story revolves around Vasudhara and her struggles to become independent against her father.

Vasudhara "Vasu" is a studious, fearless and educated undergraduate, who believes that women should step out of their house and become independent. Her professor Jagathi is her mentor, who supports Vasu and encourages her to become independent. Vasu's father Chakrapani who is an orthodox and materialistic person, believes daughters to be burden and tries to arrange Vasu's marriage with Kailash against her wishes. Vasu's brother-in-law Rajeev is obsessed with her. Rajeev is the widower of Vasu's late elder sister Vandhana, who in fact committed suicide due to Rajeev's torture. Kailash calls off his wedding with Vasu thanks to Rajeev, who bribed him. Meanwhile, Rushindra Bhushan "Rishi" is a modern-day misogynist, who wants his wife to be a homemaker and believes that women should be restricted from studying and working.

He is a college professor and managing director of DBST College, started by his grandfather. He is a misogynist because he believes that his mother, who is in fact Jagathi left him to pursue her career but the actual reason for her leaving is to support her elderly parents after her brother, the sole breadwinner of the family's death. Devayani, Rishi's aunt and foster mother, who was Jagathi's co-sister is jealous of her education and intelligence and she is the reason for Rishi's mindset because she instigated Rishi against Jagathi. Rishi calls off his wedding with his love interest Sakshi because she wants to pursue her P.H.D and become independent.

Elsewhere, Rajeev manipulates Chakrapani into arranging Vasu's marriage with him. Vasu is compelled to agree but upon suggestion from her mother Sumithra and elder sister Madhavi, she elopes from the wedding and approaches Jagathi. Jagathi requests her estranged husband Mahendra, who is Rishi's father to help Vasu gain admission in DPST. With the help of Jagathi, Vasu goes to Hyderabad and asks for admission to the college. She seeks shelter from the in-laws of Madhavi's in-laws as a paying guest. Knowing that Vasu is Jagathi's student, Rishi refuses to give admission to Vasu but is compelled by his uncle Phanindra to interview Vasu in order to avoid controversies. Rishi bombards Vasu with questions but she cracks the interview with flying colors and Rishi demands a transfer certificate and 50,00 rupees fees. Jagathi helps Vasu and she gets admission into DPST College much to the inconvenience of Rishi and her cousins: Anjana and Sanjana, who hates Vasu. Anju and Sanju continue to trouble Vasu.

Rajeev begins staying with Madhavi's in-laws using his friendship with Madhavi's husband Vikas. Filled with outrage against Jagathi, Rajeev shoots her but she is saved in time. In the hospital, Rajeev demands six lakhs, which he gave as a debt to Chakrapani in six months from Vasu to stop troubling her and she accepts the challenge. She begins working in a restaurant and Petrol bunk after College timings to pay Rajeev's money. Thanks to Rishi, Vasu loses her job in the petrol bunk. Upon Mahendra's request, Jagathi begins staying in Hyderabad and struggles to win her son's love. Vasu learns that an essay writing competition is going to be conducted nationwide and she will be rewarded with 2 lakhs if she wins the competition and she will be able to pay back Rajeev's money. Sanjana and Devayani frame Vasu of cheating in the first level competition but Rishi helps her prove her innocence. She gets selected to a second-level competition while Jagathi starts working in DPST college thanks to an educational project. Rishi begins understanding Jagathi but Devayani keeps instigating him against her.

Vasu becomes upset with Rishi after he addresses Vasu as "after all, a student". However, Rishi clears the differences and accompanies her to the competition as Jagathi tentatively becomes bed ridden due to her fracture in leg.
