Description[edit]

Gymnopilus ianthinilophus is an agaric mushroom species in the fungal genus Gymnopilus[1]. It was discovered in the Amazon region of Brazil, and described as new to science in 2023.

The basidiocarps are densely clustered. The cap (pileus) is squarrose with blackish brown squamules. The gills (lamellae) are adnate to subdeccurent with a decurrent tooth. The stipe is violaceous brown.

The basidiospores measure 7.6-9.2 x 5.1-6.1 μm and are weakly dextrinoid. The cap tissue (pileipellis) is interwoven. The cheilocystidia are lageniform with capitate or subcapitate apexes, measuring 15.3-25.5 x 5.6-8.2 μm. Pleurocystidia and caulocystidia are absent.

G. ianthinilophus is compared to other morphologically similar Gymnopilus species.
