The Haarlem Model United Nations Organisation is a nonprofit organization that promotes awareness of international relations. The organisation organises the Haarlem Model United Nations conference, which is attended by approximately 600 delegates. The conference is held at Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem in the Netherlands and is run entirely by students from that school.

Haarlem Model United Nations Conference[edit]
Founded in 1997 by Philip Terwiel, Benjamin Bilski, Tim van Kempen, Clara van Dijk and Marleen van der Kaaij, the first Haarlem Model United Nations conference was held at the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem in 1998 with grant funding from the In Aeternum Fund, Hoogovens, Aegon, and the City of Haarlem. Approximately 200 students attended the three day event,[1] from Russia, Germany, Belgium, France and The Netherlands. Over the course of 20 years, Haarlem Model United Nations almost tripled in size: close to 600 High School students attended the 2017 conference,[2] which was held from March 31, 2017 till April 2, 2017.
Board of Directors[edit]
The Board of Directors (BOD) comprises Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem teachers. Their main role is to provide guidance to the student organizing committee, select senior student staff, and approve items with long term implications. Currently, Mr. G. Bolten, Mrs. N. Visser, Mr. C. Blommesteijn, Mr. S. Voorn, and Mr. M. Joles serve on the board.
Secretariat[edit]
The Secretariat consists of the top-level officers of Haarlem Model United Nations who oversee all branches and activities of the conference, these are always students of the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem who are active and usually the most experienced Model UN participants. The Secretariat always consists of a Secretary-General and his or hers Deputy Secretaries-General. The Secretary-General is elected annually in June by the Board of Directors out of the Secretariat of last year. The Deputy Secretaries-General are elected annually at the same time by the Board of Directors out of students of the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem who have applied for these positions, these are respectively the Deputy Secretary-General of Information, the Deputy Secretary-General of Organisation, the Deputy Secretary-General of Communication and the Deputy Secretary-General of Administration.
Executive Staff[edit]
The members of the Executive Staff are appointed by the Secretary-General in coordination with his or her Deputies and the Board of Directors. Next year's members are chosen out of students of the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem who have applied specifically for a position and are active and experienced Model UN participants.[3] The Executive Staff consists of the following managements, each consisting of one or two staff members: -Conference Management (CM) -Information Management (IM) -Information and Technology Management (ITM) -Sponsoring Management (SPM) -Head of Hospitality (HoH) -Head of Admins (HoA) -Head of Content (HoH)
