Haim Amzalag

Haim Nessim Amzalag or Amzalak (1828-1916) was a pioneer and a community leader in Ottoman Palestine.
Amzalag was born in Gibraltar in 1828 to a family of Moroccan-Jewish background. In 1834, his family immigrated to Israel.
He was the vice consule of Britain in Jaffa, and the head of Alliance Israélite Universelle. Amzalak was a major character in the creation of Petah Tikva in 1878, Rishon LeZion in 1882, and Neve Tzedek in 1887.
