Halal Socks is a Canadian manufacturer and retailer of Islam-themed socks[1]. The Toronto-based company was founded in 2017 by a Muslim husband-and-wife team[2]. The company’s sock designs are geared towards the Muslim community, balancing “traditional Islamic customs with modern sensibilities[1].” The founders have stated that the mission behind Halal Socks “is to create a brand that represents the ideals of the modern Muslim, and that promotes tolerance in a time when the political climate is often anti-Islam[3]." In keeping with this mission, the company donates 5% of every sale to the Islamic Relief Worldwide Charity[1].

In the news[edit]

The company received global recognition when the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, was photographed wearing a pair of the company’s rainbow-coloured ‘Happy Eid’ socks at the 2017 Pride Parade in Toronto.[2][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][excessive citations] The Prime Minister received both praise and criticism for wearing the socks at the parade[4][7][10][12]. He had also worn the same socks a week earlier at an event at the Muslim Welfare Centre in Toronto[2].

At a Liberal Party of Canada event in July 2017, the CEO of Paramount Fine Foods presented Justin Trudeau with a pair of Shawarma socks designed by Halal Socks[13].
