His name was popularly selected over three other presented choices.
Victoria, Hamish’s mother, was born in 1996 at the Rostock Zoo (Germany), and has been at the care of RZSS' Highland Wildlife Park since March 2015. She has previously stayed and given birth at the Aalborg Zoo (Denmark) in 2008. Arktos, Hamish’s father, was born in 2008 at the Vienna Zoo (Austria). He was transferred to the Highlands from Hanover Zoo in April 2012. Hamish, Victoria, Arktos, and Walker are the four polar bears that currently reside in the Highland Wildlife Park.[2]
Hamish is the first polar born in the United Kingdom in 25 years.
