From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Hannaford Turner LLP.[1] is a specialist maritime, superyacht[2] and luxury asset law firm based in the City of London, England.

History[edit]

Hannaford Turner was founded in 2016 by Matt Hannaford[3], Justin Turner[4], Owen McHugh[5] and Keith Krut[6]. With 7 experienced maritime lawyers from established City firms Hannaford Turner opened its doors for business on 1 August 2016 from an office suite at 15 Old Bailey directly opposite the iconic Central Criminal Court building.

In 2018 Hannaford Turner made two strategic lateral Partner hires - Michael Greville and Mark Needham. Michael, formerly Head of Litigation and then Managing Partner at Watson Farley & Williams, moved to Hannaford Turner LLP in February 2018 to head the firm's burgeoning dispute resolution practice.

Mark Needham, who was reportedly the youngest lawyer in England to become a partner at a city law firm[7], joined Hannaford Turner 6 months later to head up the firms Superyacht and Luxury Asset Group. Mark co-authors the chapter on Superyacht Ownership[8] in the Private Wealth & Private Client Review[9] and is an acknowledged expert in superyacht law[10] and is regularly cited in international superyacht media[11]

In February 2019, Hannaford Turner increased its partnership further with the recruitment of Paul Turner. Paul co-authors the Informa law legal practitioners text, Ship Sale and Purchase[12], the essential working guide for anyone involved in the business of making ship sale contracts and also in the resolution of related disputes[13], alongside Matt Hannaford. Paul is an ex-Clifford Chance partner and his recruitment brought significant additional breadth and expertise to the firms ship finance and projects offering both in the commercial shipping sector and the superyacht sector.

In the summer of 2019 the firm moved to larger premises and took up residence at 9 Cloak Lane, a beautiful building which is a stone’s throw away from historic Bank and the Royal Exchange.

At the end of 2019, Adam Ramlugon, an expert in Superyacht law[14] and regular author on Superyacht legal issues[15], joined the Hannaford Turner Partnership as co-head of HT's Superyacht and Luxury Asset Group, bringing with him a decade of experience in the sector and further bolstering the firm's offering in these areas.

On 01 June 2020, Hannaford Turner recruited trade and commodities expert Grace Asemota[16] in to the partnership. Grace joined the firm from Clyde & Co offering further depth to the firm's dispute resolution practice and many years of experience in international trade and commodities work.

Awards and Recognition[edit]

The firm is ranked as a leading law firm in the Chambers & Partners High Net Worth Guide for their experience in Superyacht law[17] and is also ranked in the Legal 500 Shipping Guide.[18] for its expertise in Shipping and Maritime Law. In the 2020 Chambers & Partners High Net Worth Guide the Superyacht and Luxury Asset Group was described as having "developed a strong yachting practice with a number of high-profile hires"[19], with the Co-Head of the Group, Mark Needham being described as "well regarded for his experience and client skills" and as "super commercial, he actually comes up with solutions, he is creative but in the best possible way."[20]
