Harold Lovett

Harold Lovett was an American lawyer who represented a number of jazz musicians, including Miles Davis[1] [2] [3] In 1959 Harold was the Business Manager for John Coltrane[4] [5] [6] He negotiated a record contract for Coltrane with Atlantic Records[7] He held dual roles both as Manager and Lawyer of which back then was a rarity, being the artists' did not hire lawyers but signed their own contracts[8] Harold brokers deals for Album Releases on Columbia Records[9] Was always around the music seen and lawyered Max Roach before becoming Miles Davis' attorney and best friend[10] Harold played a significant role in dismissing charges and filing a law suit against New York City on the behalf of his client Miles Davis[11] [12] [13]

In 2015 his character was portrayed by Derek Snow in the film biography Miles Ahead[14] Name spelled both as Lovett and Lovett(e)[15] Featured in photo references Getty Images and Corbis Images[16] [17] [18]

History[edit]

Born Harold Edward Kingsley Lovett, October 29, 1923 in Jackson Tennessee. He graduated from Lane College in 1943, then afterwards entered the United States Navy where he served 2 years during World War II. Harold received his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1949. Mr. Lovett passed away January 3, 1991.
