Hawken Horse is a folk music artist who releases songs about North American frontier history. It was founded by Nashville-based songwriter-producer Andrew Scott Wills, inspired by his lifelong interest in Simon Kenton and the book The Frontiersmen by Allan W. Eckert.[1][2][3]
The band name references the two items a 19th century mountain man needed for survival; his Hawken rifle and his horse.[4]
On June 21, 2023, he was a guest on Meat Eater's Bear Grease Podcast where he discussed Davy Crockett, performed the "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" and introduced his second album Longhunter.[5]
Hawken Horse's 4th album, Hammered & Hewn Vol. 1 & 2 expanded his songwriting into the post-American Civil War eras including songs about Wild Bill Hickok and Billy the Kid.[6][7][8]
